  • Cooper Haverly, Joshua's blood brother, who is caught between young woman's irresistible charm and her father's irreconcilable hatred.

  • Elish Brecht, a Tory and sworn enemy o the Colters, who teams up with the Chickamaugas and ruthlessly preys on the settlers.

  • Ayasta, the beautiful widow of a Chickamauga warrior, who is helped by the white man who left her husband dead on the battlefield.

  • Callum McSwain, a friend of the Colters, who has lost his wife, his homestead, and most of his nerve.

  • Pontius Pilate, a huge black frontiersman and fugitive slave, who defends his freedom and avenges the death of a friend.

  • Israel Coffman, a frontier preacher who brought faith to a godless land but must now face his own crisis of faith.



CAMERON JUDD is a prolific writer of historical fiction who writes with authority and respect for the American frontier and the people who courageously settled the land. He is the author of "Passage to Natchez," "Boone," "Crockett of Tennessee,' " the Mountain War Trilogy, and numerous other historical novels. Judd is Director of Communications at Tusculum College and lives in Choctaw, Tennessee.
