Sisters: 100 Ways They Bless Our Lives

Gregory E. Lang and Janet Lankford-Moran

Sisters take on many varied roles throughout one another's lives: best friends, caregivers, keepers of each other's deepest secrets. Thus, sisters depend on one another in different ways at different times perhaps as protectors when they are young, confidantes as they mature, listening ears during the early years of adulthood and marriage, and supporters at the birth of a child or the death of a loved one.

My sister has been all of these to me, and more, writes Janet Lankford-Moran. Eight years older than I am, she has provided me with much love and support. Indeed, she has been instrumental in the development of the woman I have become.

Sisters: 100 Ways They Bless Our Lives was written and illustrated by creators of the New York Times best-selling Why a Daughter Needs a Dad in gratitude for the contributions sisters have made to their lives. I wanted to create a book that illustrates the many relationships and ways sisters come together to nurture one another, Lankford-Moran writes. This might happen at a tea party or at an afternoon of dress up for two young sisters. As they grow older, it might be cooking a family meal together, sewing a family quilt, or enjoying a few minutes together over a quiet cup of coffee. It might also have be in a long, leisurely walk as they reflect on the many blessed moments they have shared.

Having experienced my own sisters as a friend and now as a mother and best friend, Lankford-Moran writes, I want in some small way to give a voice to the strength and common bond felt by all sisters everywhere.

JANET LANKFORD-MORAN is a professional photographer who lives in Chicago, Illinois.
