Bunker Hill is the fictionalized story of Warren's involvement in the cause of freedom. As a young physician, he was invited by Samuel Adams to attend the meetings of Boston's Long Room Club. From that group came numerous petitions for redress to the British crown, stirring articles in local newspapers, the formation of the Sons of Liberty, the Committees of Correspondence, and ultimately preparation for battle with the mightiest power then on earth.
At the same time, Warren's reputation grew as one of the finest physicians in Boston. A devoted husband and father, he was tormented by the fact that although he was able to help many people with his medical skills, he was unable to save his beloved wife, Elizabeth, from an early grave, leaving him with four young children.
It was Warren who united the Continental Congress, who made the fearful decision on his knees to call out the militia, who sent Paul Revere on his famous ride, who held together a red-tag provincial army following the battles of Lexington and Concord, who served as president of the Massachusetts Provincial Congress, who was head surgeon of the military hospitals and major general of the militia. Under extreme pressure, his abilities were tested to the limit.
